Our Story

The Educational Center for the Visually Impaired was established in September 2014 by Evelyn Brandt-Thomas in honor of her husband, Gordon Thomas. Her desire was to improve the quality of life for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

Our Mission: Provide quality education, training and resources so people with visual impairments are able to live safe, independent and fulfilling lives.

Our Vision: ECVI will strive to be the premier educational center for the visually impaired and their support system.

There is no charge for any of our classes and we enjoy customizing educational enrichment opportunities and daily living skills for students of all ages.

WHAT DO OUR STUDENTS SAY ABOUT ECVI?

Grant is wearing his favorite ball cap
"I have taken most of the classes offered by the ECVI.  It has opened up a social and fun world to me in Springfield. I now enjoy volunteering at the Springfield Art Association, attending the ECVI Friendship Fridays, and making connections in Springfield. Thank you to Peggy, Dan, and Mary Beth who have made the biggest impact to me. "
-Grant, age 35
